My journey with the Marshall Islands has shaped who I am today. Over the years I’ve spent in various atolls, I’ve been privileged to experience a culture that has evolved in beautiful isolation for centuries. As someone who has lived and breathed the Marshallese way of life, I’ve witnessed firsthand how our master navigators read the ocean currents, how our storytellers keep our history alive, and how our communities maintain bonds that span generations and atolls.
I created Meius.org because I believe these stories deserve to be told. As someone who knows the inside and out of Marshallese people – our language, our practices, our beliefs – I feel a deep responsibility to share this knowledge. But my time in the islands has taught me something else: the importance of preserving not just Marshallese culture, but all heritage languages and traditions that make America’s cultural landscape so rich.
